Stripers -The Striper fishing is good most days. Saturday, we had eight bites and landed 5 fish. The biggest one being just over 11lbs. Fishing blue backs and trout in the back of most creeks will get some action. Down lines and flat lines are working well. The flat line bite seems to go away after sunrise. I will switch one of my flat lines to a down line then and have three down and one flat. I am fishing the down lines 25-35ft deep over a 40-foot bottom. There is a big concentration of schooling Stripers up the lake from Gainesville Marina to Little Hall. Mack Farr's nine-bait u-rig is hard to beat when these fish are up.
Bass -
The bass fishing has been really good. We have been catching most of our fish on tungsten spoons. The smaller size with the same weight seems to work better. We have been fishing the drop shot rig with good success. Both of these techniques are easy to use. What ever your bait of choice is, it is best to keep it around brush in 25-40 ft of water. If you are marking the fish and are having trouble getting them to bite, try a 4 – 6 inch blue back. It works every time!
Crappie -
Nothing much has changed for me on the Crappie. Concentrate on covered docks, up the lake, with 15 - 18feet out off the end. A major key is the dock needs to have structure and plenty of shade. Another pattern is the major bends up in the rivers. These fish are schooled up and easy to catch on small minnows.
If you have any questions about navigation or open boat ramps drop me a line.
