Lake Lanier is located just north of Atlanta, Georgia. Nestled in
the foothills of the Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains.
It
is a manmade lake formed by the Army Corps of Engineers.
This is the largest manmade lake in the Nation. At
normal
levels it covers 38,000 acres with 640 miles of shoreline.
Feed by the Chattahoochee and the Chestatee Rivers,
and
held by the Buford Dam, Lanier is a water wonderland
for sportsman of all types.
The
full name of the lake is Lake Sidney Lanier, named after
the 19th century poet, Sidney Clopton Lanier, whose admiration
for the area's beauty inspired him to write his famous
"Song
of the Chattahoochee." |
