Lake Lanier Fishing
Seasons ...
This
page is designed to let you know what type of methods can
be expected while fishing Lake Lanier different times
of the year.
Spring (February - May)
Spotted Bass- The fishing is fantastic this time of
year. It consists mostly of cast and retrieve type fishing. We use
artificial lures, because they work! This is a very aggressive time of
the year for spotted bass and big fish and great numbers can be
expected.
Stripers- Spring Stripers usually takes us up the main
rivers in search of big fish! We don't always catch big numbers, but
if it is a trophy fish your after this is the time to catch it. Fish
over 20lbs is the target.
Crappie- Get the frying pan ready. Good fish and big
numbers can be expected. Although I don't get a lot of request to go
on a crappie fishing trip. It can be some of the most fun, exciting
and not to mention tastiest trips of the season. If you have a
youngster that you want to introduce to the world of fishing, I would
highly recommend this time of year and this species of fish.
Summer (June - August)
Spotted Bass-
After the spawn is complete the fish will retreat from the banks and
head to structure. There are many different ways to catch them. If you
are looking for fast action, we can use live bait (spotail minnows).
If you want to use artificial, top water is very exciting. It is an
excellent time of the year for big numbers of fish. Top water action
produces some of the biggest fish.
Stripers- Summer
is a great time for catching big numbers of Stripers. I mostly use
live blue backs and trolling as the summer methods for putting these
fish in the boat. You can expect great numbers and good size fish.
They will usually average between 3-15 lbs.
Crappie- This
species of fish can give some fantastic fishing this time of year. I
use live bait and spooning methods to put you on the fish.
Fall (September - November)
Spotted Bass- Exciting! Spots start schooling up and chasing bait fish. The weather is usually very cooperative and the fishing is great. Big numbers of
fish and an occasional lunker is the norm. Mostly artificial lures are
used this time of year. Spooning is very productive.
Stripers- Fall Striper fishing is fantastic. They can be caught using
numerous methods. The most productive is usually live bait. Often, we
will find the Stripers pushing bait to the surface. Top water plugs
are always close at hand.
Winter (December - January)
Spotted Bass-This is a time of the year that seems to give many anglers
inconsistent catches. I have the method. Live bait and keep it deep!!
Stripers - The
weather can be a challenge this time of year. But if you dress
accordingly, the fish will do the rest. As long as the water temp
stays above 50 degrees you can expect some really good fishing. We
normally use live bluebacks and blind cast in the areas that fish have
been marked.
